SLPA vs Banks

Real-Time Payment Solution

Project Description

As part of our ongoing commitment to enhancing operational efficiency at Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA), we have successfully implemented a real-time payment solution that integrates with 12 leading banks in Sri Lanka. This innovative project was led by myself, and under my supervision, the solution was effectively deployed to serve our customers.

The core objective of this initiative was to streamline the payment process for cargo clearance, providing a seamless and efficient experience for our clients. To achieve this, we established a robust payment gateway solution that facilitates secure, real-time transactions between SLPA and the participating banks. This integration allows customers to complete their payments directly through their preferred banking institution, reducing the time and effort required for cargo clearance.

The real-time payment solution represents a significant advancement in SLPA’s digital transformation efforts, enabling faster processing of payments and reducing delays in cargo handling. By connecting SLPA with multiple banks, we have ensured that our customers have a range of options for completing their transactions, further enhancing the convenience and flexibility of our services.

This project underscores SLPA’s commitment to leveraging technology to improve operational efficiency and customer satisfaction. The successful implementation of the real-time payment solution is a testament to our dedication to providing the best possible service to our clients while supporting the broader goals of modernizing Sri Lanka’s port operations.

About

Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA)’s Colombo Port is a rapidly expanding shipping hub in the South Asia region, serving as a gateway for cargo destined for Europe, East and South Asia, the Persian Gulf, and East Africa. Handling 2.5 million TEU annually, Colombo Port has been developed to accommodate deep-water berths and the latest mainline vessels, ensuring its competitiveness in global maritime trade.

As SLPA’s business continued to grow, the need to enhance operational efficiency became increasingly apparent. One of the critical areas identified for improvement was the payment processing system. With Colombo Port managing over 10,000 payment transactions daily, it became essential to implement a solution that could handle this volume while maintaining high standards of accuracy and speed.

To address this challenge, SLPA, in collaboration with Access International, successfully implemented a real-time payment solution. This project, led by myself and executed under my supervision, introduced a cutting-edge payment gateway that integrates SLPA with 12 leading banks in Sri Lanka. The solution enables secure, real-time transactions, allowing customers to complete payments for cargo clearance swiftly and efficiently.

The Steering Committee at SLPA commented on this development, stating, “The implementation of the real-time payment solution has been a game-changer for our operations. Working closely with Access International, our teams have developed a system that not only meets the demands of our growing business but also enhances the overall efficiency of our payment processing.

The real-time payment solution allows SLPA to manage high transaction volumes seamlessly, reducing processing times and minimizing delays in cargo clearance. By automating and streamlining the payment process, SLPA has significantly improved its service delivery, contributing to the broader goal of modernizing port operations to ensure enhanced safety, efficiency, and productivity.

This initiative highlights SLPA’s commitment to leveraging technology to meet the evolving needs of global trade, providing customers with the best possible service through innovative and automated processes.
